01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the heart of Rochester at 16 Gibbs St, Java's Cafe is a charming and spacious coffee shop that artfully blends a warm, inviting atmosphere with a thoughtfully curated menu of specialty beverages and fresh treats. This local gem offers an enticing array of drinks that cater to both traditional coffee lovers and those seeking unique flavor experiences.

Java's Cafe truly shines with its specialty drinks like the Chaplain double espresso featuring smooth vanilla and creamy milk over rice, delivering a rich yet balanced flavor for $4.25. For those craving a comforting blend, the Shot In The Dark—an elegant fusion of espresso, hot chocolate, and topped with whipped cream—provides a luscious sensory delight at $3.75. If you're in the mood for something refreshingly cool, the Chocolate Sitch iced blend of espresso, chocolate, and milk offers a perfectly chilled treat. For a classic twist, the 1/2 And 1/2, combining hot chocolate and coffee for just $2.50, is a comforting go-to that never disappoints.

Tea enthusiasts will appreciate the selection of organic herbals and tisanes, including soothing Egyptian Chamomile, vibrant Peppermint, and the distinctive kick of Ginkgo Kavakava. These carefully chosen teas expand the cafe’s offerings beyond the standard fare, inviting a calm, reflective moment with every cup.

Beyond coffee and tea, Java's serves freshly squeezed orange juice and lemonade, real brewed organic iced teas, and luscious fruit smoothies such as the vibrant Jungle Juice and the playful Kinky Reggae—a perfect refreshment during warmer days or as a midday burst of energy.

The cafe’s laid-back charm is enhanced by its art deco décor and welcoming, cozy ambiance that invites lingering over a book or catching up with friends. It’s a favorite spot among locals, with proximity to the music school adding an element of spirited people-watching. Customers frequently praise the friendly and personable staff, noting especially the baristas’ attentiveness and genuine warmth, which elevates every visit into a memorable experience.

While some may miss the previously made-to-order chai, many still find comfort in the extensive beverage variety and delightful pastries offered. Treat yourself to their strawberry lemon tart, praised for its bright, tangy sweetness, or savor solid oatmeal raisin cookies and ginger molasses delights. Though opinions on the chocolate chip cookie vary, the overarching vibe and quality service keep visitors returning.

What truly sets Java's Cafe apart is its harmonious blend of thoughtful menu craftsmanship and a welcoming community spirit. Whether you're seeking a meticulously crafted espresso, a cozy nook to work with reliable Wi-Fi and ample outlets, or a casual stop to enjoy artful drinks and treats, Java's promises a genuine coffeehouse experience that feels both personal and refreshing.

For anyone in Rochester looking for a coffee shop that combines quality, comfort, and character in equal measure, Java’s Cafe is a heartfelt recommendation.

Super disappointed they don’t make their chai like they used to! It used to be the best chai I’ve ever had when they did it made to order but they switched to a premade version and it pales in comparison unfortunately. Great coffee shop but that’s disappointing as it was the main reason I went!

Very nice spacious cafe with lots of interesting art deco, close to music school so interesting for people watching as well. The cappuccino I had was meh, but my husband said his espresso was good. We had a strawberry lemon tart that was tasty. Oatmeal raisin cookie was solid, ginger molasses was fine (my husband enjoyed it, I’m not a fan), the chocolate chip was a letdown. Still an enjoyable experience though.

Most of the employees are great. The man who serves the sandwiches is very pleasant and personable. He's probably got the best customer connections ive ever seen. Give him a raise he keeps the cafe so tidy.

I absolutely love Java’s! It’s by far the best coffee shop in town. Ample seating, wifi, outlets, and fun music that isn’t too loud. I appreciate that they have an unsweetened version of their matcha. Also, shout out to Mike, my favorite barista!

The tea and desserts are always great. I just want to thank the staff for helping me this eve. A person in the street told me they were cold and hungry. I have seen this guy around for many years and will usually give him food. So I gave him my rice krispy treat. He then told me he was cold and wanted a coffee. So I told him I would get him one. Went back to Javas and told them that I gave away my rice krispy treat to someone who told me he was hungry and that I needed a coffee for this person outside. They wouldn’t let me get it because this person is banned from javas and always scams people. They replaced my rice krispy treat that I gave away for free. So Thank you to the staff for looking out for me. Im sorry if this review doesn’t belong here but I appreciate the staff and wanted to say Thank you.

I came on a Saturday at 4:45pm and the place was packed. Good chai though. Definitely has the hipster feel.
